Gidding’s Boatworks welcomes the F/V Aleutian Ballad all the way from Alaska for some much needed TLC!
The Aleutian Ballad’s visit this year will be a rather large project for the team here at GBW. We will be installing a new 50 horsepower dual blade Wesmar Bow Thruster and tube inserted into the FWD Hull.
We are are also installing two new Fernstrum Main Engine Keel and Cofferdam mounts on the inside of the engine room along with new piping systems from the Main Engine to the cofferdams and keel coolers.
We have removed all of the fuel from the vessel and gas freed all of the vessel’s tanks. Giddings will remove fourteen manhole hatches on the main deck. some will be inserted and some will receive new hatches.
Giddings is in the process of blasting the bottom underwater hull and will paint five coats to finish. Giddings will blast the entire Main deck and finish it out with four coats of paint.
The entire hydraulic system on the Main deck will be replaced with new piping. Giddings will make the needed repairs to the hull if any steel is to be renewed.
Giddings has been working day in and out with the United States Coast Guard to make this project happen. We will keep you posted as a project unfolds.
